Police disrupt students’ fast at KU
The police have arrested all the nine students of the Kakatiya University who were on an indefinite fast supporting the T-cause sparking a row of agitations all over Warangal district. The students were forcibly picked up from the university campus and were admitted to the MGM hospital under the directive of a local court where they were presented in the afternoon. Police also booked ‘suicide attempt’ cases on eight of those students after they refused to undergo medical treatment. This fuelled widespread agitations in the city as thousands took to rallies on the streets staging a road blockade protesting the police action and to express solidarity to the fasting students’ cause. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of students and the University Employees Association meanwhile have launched a relay hunger strike in support of Telangana statehood. The JAC has also called for a ‘Bandh’ of all educational institutions today to press for the release of students arrested during the Telangana agitation. Incidentally, congress MPs too sent in a memorandum to the Chief Minister today urging him to lift all cases booked on the arrested students as promised by the Union Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram.
