Constitute second SRC: Venkat Reddy
Avowed integrationist and minister for endowments Mr. G. Venkata Reddy called for the constitution of a second SRC to sort out the Telangana issue. Incidentally, the State Reorganization Committee (SRC) is widely seen by many experts as ‘hurting the chances for the formation of a separate state’. Mr. Venkata Reddy bringing up the issue of SRC assumes significance as it comes ahead of the scheduled meeting of all the eight recognized political parties from the state with the union Home Minister on January 5 to discuss over the Telangana deadlock. ‘If the constitution of a second SRC isn’t acceptable to Telangana supporters, a committee comprising of judges should be formed and whatever its decision should be made binding on the government’, said Mr. Reddy. The minister also reiterated that his party never promised statehood to Telangana and only said that it will look into the matter by referring it to the SRC. ‘Even our party’s election manifesto says so and nowhere was its mentioned that a spate state would be carved out. AICC president Ms. Sonia Gandhi has not spoken on the statehood issue and the Home Minister’s statement on December 9 is his personal view and as such is not binding on the government’ clarified the minister.
