Indian visas get tougher
In view of the growing terrorist
threat from foreign countries including the United
States of America and the United Kingdom, the Union Home
Ministry has tightened the visa laws. The new laws make it tougher for
foreigners to get a visa to visit or work in the country. According to the new
rules to be announced next week, any person requiring a tourist visa has to
leave the country (called a “time out”) after a 90 day period for two months.
This would affect foreigners who apply long term visiting visas to work in the
country than apply for a citizenship which is a very lengthy process. Another
group of foreigners who would be affected would be those who use India as a base
while touring the sub-continent region. The UK High Commission and the US
Embassy have voiced their protest over the new rules to be announced. These new
rules come in wake of the arrest of Headley by the FBI, a terrorist, who happens
to be an American citizen.
