BJP puts its weight behind CPI
The Bharatiya Janata Party has put its weight behind the CPI and opposed the government’s move of sending a Central Team to West Bengal to asses the situation there. The CPI was had disrupted procedures in both the houses. Advani was successful as BJP, CPI and SP were united in opposing the move made by the government. Advani said that though BJP and CPI had differences relating to the issue, the BJP would oppose the imposition of Article 356 though the CPI had supported the then Prime Minister, P V Narasimha Rao’s move in dismissing the BJP government in four states namely UP, MP, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. Advani said that the core issue of BJP’s opposition was not the Central team visiting Bengal but the implementation of the Article 356.
