Kaiga radiation due to sabotage
Questions were raised about the
security of the nuclear power plant at Kaiga, Karnataka as reports suggested
that the mixing of the contaminated heavy water (used for cooling the nuclear
reactor) with drinking water was an inside job. The mixing of the heavy water
with drinking water resulted in radiation poisoning to 45 employees of the power
plant. The heavy water that was mixed with the drinking water was traced back
to vials kept in the laboratories within the complex as it needs to be tested
first before being released. “The staff who had access to vial and the various
points in the chain where the vials could have been diverted are being
examined”, Prithviraj Chavan, MoS in the PMO said.
