Twin blasts rock Assam
Two bomb blast rocked Assam killing
at least 7 people and injuring 50 others. The blasts are said to have been
triggered by suspected ULFA militants. The blasts took place in the Nalbari
town in lower Assam
about 70kms west of Guwahati on Sunday. The authorities have sounded a red
alert across the state. According to witnesses, the first blast that took place
outside a police station had injured about a dozen people. The second blast,
barely triggered fifteen metres away, is said to be relatively more powerful
one that had claimed at least five lives and injured many others. According to
authorities, the toll because of the blast was less as it was a Sunday;
otherwise the toll would have been very high. Police sources say the bombs were
placed in bicycles. The police have blamed the ULFA outfit but they have denied
any involvement in the blast.
