Tragedy at air show
Tragedy struck at the air show at the old Begumpet Airport during the India Aviation 2010 air show. A naval Sagar Pawan aircraft crashed into an adjoining building in Bowenpally killing both the pilots and injuring two occupants of the building. There were only two occupants in the building which happened to be a three storey residential apartment. The cause for the accident was not known immediately. A probe was ordered to check the remaining air crafts and also the cause of the accident. There were many VIPs present at the air show and the list included Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, the US Ambassador Timothy Roemer, the French Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont and Kingfisher Chairman Vijay Mallya. Though the cause of the accident was not known, the Airport Authority of India blamed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for allowing his structures to come up near the airport. Ironically, the crash comes after the airport was shifted to Shamshabad and during the regular functioning of the airport.
