India beat Pakistan 4-1. England upset Australia
India
beat Pakistan in the opener of the Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 convincingly. The
visitors lost 1-4 to the hosts. The Indian team was without experienced and
leading goal keeper Adrian D’Souza and captain Rajpal Singh. Sandeep Singh
scored two goals while Shivendra Singh and Prabhjot Singh scored one goal apiece.
In another match, England defeated Australia 3-2. Many decisions during the
match were referred to the television umpire including a crucial decision of
awarding a penalty for Australia. After that decision was referred to the third
umpire by England, it was turned down. England had kept up to its tag of being
a team of dark horses by defeating the Australian team.
