India clinch thriller
India defeated the visiting South African team by just one run after being in a comfortable position. Dhoni blasted his bowlers for their poor performance and “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” as Ravi Shastri said during the post match presentation. Having lost the toss and put into bat, India lost the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar cheaply after a mix-up between Sehwag and the little master. Sehwag then blasted two sixes, one in left arm pacer Parnell’s over and one in Steyn’s over which was his trademark cut over third man. Sehwag and Karthik were scoring at a brisk pace before Sehwag was run out from a deflection from bowler Langeveldt for 46.  India lost wickets at regular intervals with Suresh Raina top scoring 58 for the hosts. Jadeja chipped in with 22 and picked up 2 wickets for 29 runs in his quota of 10 overs. India managed 298 runs and set a target of 299 for the visitors. South Africa lost wickets regularly. Kallis resisted and scored 89 runs before being bowled by Sreesanth. After his dismissal, the visitors needed another 80 runs from 40 balls. Parnell and Steyn smacked the Indian bowlers around the park. Steyn was bowled in the last over for 35 runs in 19 balls that included 3 massive sixes and a four, bowled by Praveen Kumar and finally Parnell was out for 49 attempting a second run that would have tied the scores. Dhoni said that his bowlers should pull up their socks and should bowl better.
