Terror in Pune
After the terror strike
that ripped Mumbai about a year and a half ago, it returned to haunt yet
another city. This time it was Pune. A bomb blast in the city’s famous German Bakery
claimed the lives of 9 people and injured nearly 40 others. The blast was
diagonally across from the Jewish Chabad House that was visited by David Headley,
one of the 26/11 attacks suspect. Out of the nine dead, five were foreigners. According
to Union Home Secretary G K Pillai, the bomb was kept in an unattended baggage and
exploded when one of the waiters tried to open the bag. According to the Army
Bomb Squad, the bomb appeared to have been a battery operated improvised
explosive device. The impact of the bomb was such that it left a 6ftx4ft hole
at the site of explosion and the walls of the bakery caved in and the fibre
roof was blown off. According to the State Home Minister, they are yet to
identify the nationality and the names of the foreigners.
